Synopsis

On the Plane Gods are physical manifestations of reality’s natural phenomena and stars are ancient texts between the Gods which sometimes alter the operational laws of reality. While the world was once forged in the fires of these fundamental entities war, today they are no more than delegated to the foot notes of history. Once the great creators of all—from the smallest and simplest organisms to the largest and most complex mountains—now they are no more than research subjects for curious minds.

Recently, with the modern onset of formal sciences and hastily developing communication networks, people’s understanding of the Plane has advanced rapidly. Over a century ago a single man saw the advancing world and decided to begin documenting it, publishing the first copy of the Encyclopedia Mysenvaria. Today, it is a collection of works assembled by (paid and volunteered) academic students and professional scholars from a wide range of fields and studies. The Mysenvaria composes 21 volumes, making it the largest encyclopedic work on the Plane. And it is made more accessible every day.

Mysenvar is my love child (it battles with The Argonaut Experiment for that title)—ironically, it’s anniversary is my birthday. I go more into the origins of the setting in the Worldbuilding Origins essay, but Mysenvar was born from a reinvention of my primary childhood setting, Age of Magic. I had the idea to reinvent the world on my birthday, and the following day I began spitballing ideas. I would eventually land on the idea of a world where, in my own words, “Gods aren’t physical beings all of the time, instead they’re sort of like forces of nature which manifest themselves when [their respective] forces become overwhelming”. The basic premise has not changed in the slightest since I first spitballed it (for better or for worse).

At the moment Mysenvar is only explorable through the Encyclopedia Mysenvaria, a website written through the guise of a diegetic encyclopedia. The premise of the Mysenvaria is that it’s explorable by anyone at any time for free! All of the content, including images, is licensed under CC BY-NC SA, so is usable by anyone non commercially. The Mysenvaria is a daunting project, but it’s a lot of fun to work on, and I hope to start sharing it more with the world some day!

The Mysenvaria is not the only project I would like to have regarding Mysenvar, however. I have other ideas for videos covering the setting, I would like to run TTRPG’s with friends inside of the setting, I think it would be fun to make some short animations that take place in the setting, I want to write some short stories too! There’s so many possibilities, and I want to start exploring them!
