Synopsis

The Garden of Eden has fallen, the Pearly Gates have locked, and judgment has ceased. As Heaven grows enthralled in a war with Hell, Eden has found itself at the center of the fight—invaded by demon and angel alike. Hell is industrializing; the holy rivers have run dry, now diverted by colossal dams powered by captive Archangels. Thirsty and damaged the Entwined Trees—those of Life, Good, and Evil—have receded too. Impassable chasms now lie in the wake of the dry rivers and receding roots.

You awaken in Sheol, Eden’s shadowland—the portion closest to Hell. Greeted by Nahas, The Serpent, you trade your Sins for Virtues and search for passage beyond the Pearly Gates. But to reach the gates first Eden must be freed. Only then will judgment return.

BLESSED is kind of a strange love child project. I adore the idea of Christian imagery (especially the Old Testament)! One of my favorite historical artists is the Romantic painter John Martin (I’m not an art history nerd), who I know primarily for his gorgeous sublime paintings! I love The Binding of Isaac and its grotesque and often religious imagery! One of my favorite indie artists is Cardo-de-comer who has a few religion-inspired OCs! These, and a whole lot more, all serve as inspirations for BLESSED.

My old idea for the game was a fast-paced FPS akin to DOOM (hence the name parallel), but my idea for the game has evolved since then, and I’m not sure if I like the idea of it being an FPS game? Maybe a puzzle game suits it more?

I want to play with the idea of what angels and demons represent in the imagery. Sin is like a fuel that is burned away to produce virtue, angels are powerful beacons of virtue who burn with fire. Demons are filled with sin and vice, they’re cold and cumbersome. The burning of sin produces ash, which is used monetarily to trade with Nahas, the Serpent. Nahas offers the player virtues and boons they can use to progress.
