Gem Biology
Gem Culture
Gem Culture is complex, and not touched on heavily in the show. Instead, we have to draw our own conclusions based on what we see in the show.
The Rethinking
Gem History
Gem history is broken into three distinct Eras.
Era 1 is all history which occurred before the alleged shattering of Pink Diamond.
Era 2 is all history which occurred after the alleged shattering of Pink Diamond but before the return of Pink Diamond to Homeworld.
Era 3 is all history which occurred after the return of Pink Diamond to Homeworld.
Fusions
Fusions do not create new gems, but they may refer to themselves as such. Blue Diamond hints at this when she refers to Garnet, "Garnet? Does that call herself a Garnet?".
Sex & Gender
Gems are sexless and agender. All gems, regardless of presentation, take on she/her pronouns.

Description
Steven Universe is a 2013 children's animated TV series created by Rebecca Sugar and aired on Cartoon Network. The setting features a magical race of extraterrestrials known as Gems, whose physiologies are explained away with magic. The details of how their galaxy-spanning empire functions are seldom elaborated on either. But, what if the Gems weren't magical, what if their empire's details were fleshed out? This is my love letter to the show: redesigning Steven Universe.

Organic Life
Gems believe organisms, like those on Earth, to be inferior.
Part of how they justify their societies genocidal tendencies.
Gem Castes
Gem society is broken into many castes.
Matriarchs
Diamonds are the highest-ranking gems in Homeworld culture. The four existing diamonds, White, Yellow, Blue, and Pink, make up The Great Diamond Authority.
Each diamond has their own court, for which the gems they create are categorized under.
There may be rankings even within the diamonds themselves—Yellow and Blue are fearful of White.
